Green Building & Energy Tax Credits
Help Protect the Environment, while Paying up to $1500.00 Less in Taxes!

What is Green Building?

Green Building seeks to minimize the impact of your project upon the environment, both immediately and in the future.  Energy-efficient materials reduce heating and cooling costs.  The selection of quality low-maintenance and long-lasting materials reduces waste from ending up in landfills.

Does Green Building Cost More?

Often, no.  Any project has initial, upfront costs (also called Contract Cost).  Then, there are long-term, or maintenance, costs based on the quality of your initial product choice.  High-quality materials that will last longer, require less Maintenance, or use less Energy may have a higher initial cost, but a lower overall cost over their lifetime.  Examples include Energy-Efficient Windows and Thicker Ceiling Insulation.  They can also offer a much better return at resale.  It is the job of your Mulder Glass Representative to discuss the costs and benefits associated with each product.

What about Tax Credits?

For 2010, a Federal Tax Credit is available for up to 30% of the purchase price of highly-efficient windows and doors, up to a maximum credit of $1500.00Not all Energy Star windows and doors qualify, as the guidelines are very strict.  Your design representative can show you which products do qualify.  Second Homes, Rental Homes, and New Home Construction (from an empty lot) do not qualify, but can still benefit from reduced energy costs.

How do I Claim the 2010 Tax Credit?

We will furnish you with a receipt showing the purchase price (minus installation) of your qualified windows and doors, along with a Certified Statement from the Manufacturer.  IRS tax form 5695 (Energy Tax Credits) was used in 2009, and will likely need to be filed (can be found online).  Note that this is an actual credit off your taxes, and not simply a deduction.
